Florida Traffic Defense Attorney — Don't Just Pay the Ticket

Why You Should Never Just Pay a Traffic Ticket

When you pay a Florida traffic ticket without contesting it, you are admitting guilt. That means points assessed against your driving record, higher insurance rates that can last for years, and potential license suspension if you accumulate too many points. For commercial drivers, a single ticket can threaten your CDL and your livelihood. Fighting the ticket — even on procedural grounds — can result in dismissal or a withhold of adjudication, keeping your record clean.

Traffic Violations We Handle

Medgebow Law handles all types of Florida traffic violations including: speeding tickets; careless driving; reckless driving; running a red light or stop sign; red light camera, school zone camera, improper lane change or failure to yield; leaving the scene of an accident; driving with a suspended or revoked license; DUI defense and related license issues; CDL violations; and school zone and construction zone violations.

Consequences of Florida Traffic Points

Florida operates on a points system, where most minor moving violations carry 3 points, and more serious violations carry 4 or 6 points. If a driver accumulates 12 points within 12 months, their license is subject to a 30-day suspension; 18 points within 18 months results in a 3-month suspension; and 24 points within 36 months results in a one-year suspension. A traffic attorney may be able to obtain a withhold of adjudication, which, if granted by the court, prevents points from being assessed even if a fine is paid.

Protecting Commercial Drivers

If you hold a Commercial Driver's License (CDL), the stakes are even higher. Florida and federal law impose stricter standards on CDL holders — certain violations that carry minor consequences for regular drivers can result in CDL disqualification. Medgebow Law understands the federal motor carrier regulations and will work aggressively to protect your license and your career.

Medgebow Law represents drivers facing traffic violations in courts throughout Palm Beach County, Broward County, Miami-Dade County, St. Johns County, Duval County, Clay County, and beyond. We appear in court on your behalf — in most traffic matters, you will not need to take a day off work.
